In Loving Memory of Albert |
 |
Always be content with what you have; never let other people's things fill you eyes
~Albert Grant~
This page is dedicated to my dad, Albert, who passed away in December of 1996.
My dad grew up in a small village called Maratraite in Guyana, South America.
That is where he met my mom, and they stayed happily married until the day he left this earth.
Dad worked for the Agriculture Department in Guyana providing mechanical assistance for the
developing the infrastructure of towns and villages. He loved his job, but it required that we
moved around quite frequently. He and my mom had a total of 14 children. My mom decided to stop
her job as a school teacher in order to stay at home and raise me and my brothers and sisters.
Dad was the consummate family man, and demanded that each of his children receive a great
education, and he did just that. All that he asked in return, was that there would be
a doctor, a lawyer, a nurse, a police officer and a mechanic in the family. I am proud to
that my dad lived to see his dream came true ... in case you're wondering, I am one of the
two police officers in the family.
It took hard a lot of hard work, and a whole lot of love, to raise a large family like
ours back in those times, but they did it, and they enjoyed doing it. We are so proud and
fortunate to have had him as our father.
If I could tell my dad one thing, I would tell him that he was, and still is a role model to me,
and I really admired him. I would also tell him that I am so sorry that we did not have
an even closer relationship.
I miss you dad!
The song that you are hearing was played at my dad's funeral, and sums up
the man that he was, and will always be, to me.

Wind Beneath My Wings
Bette Midler
It must have been cold there in my shadow
To never have sunlight on your face
You were content to let me shine, that's your way
You always walked a step behind
So I was the one with all the glory
While you were the one with all the strain
A beautiful face without a name for so long
A beautiful smile to hide the pain
Did you ever know that you're my hero
And everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings
It might have appeared to go unnoticed
But I've got it all here in my heart
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it
I would be nothing without you
Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You're everything I wish I could be
I could fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings
Did I ever tell you you're my hero?
You're everything, everything I wish I could be
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings
'Cause you are the wind beneath my wings
Oh, the wind beneath my wings.
You, you, you, you are the wind beneath my wings
Fly, fly, fly away
You let me fly so high
Oh, you, you, you
The wind beneath my wings
Oh, you, you, you
The wind beneath my wings
Fly, fly, fly high against the sky
So high I almost touch the sky
Thank you, thank you
Thank God for you
The wind beneath my wings

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is bliss, taste it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.

Daddy's Hands
~by Holly Dunn~
I remember Daddy?s hands
Folded silently in prayer
And reaching out to hold me
When I had a nightmare
You could read quite a story
In the callouses and lines
Years of work and worry
Had left their mark behind
I remember Daddy?s hands
How they held my Mama tight
And patted my back
For something done right
There are things I?ve forgotten
That I loved about the man
But I?ll always remember
The love in Daddy?s hands
Daddy?s hands
Were soft and kind when I was cryin?
Daddy?s hands
Were hard as steel when I?d done wrong
Daddy?s hands
Weren?t always gentle but I?d come to understand
There was always love in Daddy?s hands
I remember Daddy?s hands
Working til they bled
Sacrificed unselfishly
Just to keep us all fed
If I could do things over
I?d live my life again
And never take for granted
The love in Daddy?s hands
Daddy?s hands
Were soft and kind when I was cryin?
Daddy?s hands
Were hard as steel when I?d done wrong
Daddy?s hands
Weren?t always gentle but I?d come to understand
There was always love ............ in Daddy?s hands
