"Daddy's Girl"

Growing up, my dad would refer to me as his “Big Engine”. My younger sister was his “Little Engine”. My dad was the biggest and strongest man in the world to me then. My mom was a SAHM and dad worked very hard to raise his five children. He would bring home all types of goodies for us on his way home from work. We would get allowances every weekend and eat out every Friday night. I think that that’s why family night is so important to me till this day.

One of the fondest memories that I have of my Dad would have to be the time he had taken my brothers to the Macy’s day parade while my mom, sister, and I stay home and prepared Thanksgiving dinner. My sister and I tried to see if we could find my dad and brothers as we watched the parade on TV, but we didn’t have much luck. My brothers were so happy when they came home that day.

My dad and I don’t talk much now, and I’m really sad about that. I’m going to make an effort to rekindle our relationship and make sure that his grandsons get to know him better, and that I get to know him better…again.

Until next time...
